On Tuesday, one of the veteran playmakers for the Sooners underwent surgery, as per the senior pass catcher’s social media post.

D.J. Graham II, a wide receiver for Oklahoma, is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, the former defensive back tweeted.

Graham watched the Sooners defeat Arkansas State 73-0 on Saturday while wearing a jersey and shorts on the sidelines. Graham’s injury has not been made public, and coach Brent Venables did not mention it while discussing injuries at his weekly news conference on Tuesday.

Graham, a senior for the Sooners, switched from cornerback to wide receiver in 2022. Over the course of three years, the 6-foot senior from Keller Central, Texas, started 12 games as a defensive back, making 10 starts in 2021.

Graham made a spectacular one-handed interception against the Nebraska Cornhuskers that same year that won him plaudits from sportswriters worldwide. The play even came up at number two on SportsCenter’s list of the best plays of 2021.

Graham produced a few more highlight plays throughout his tenure as a DB, displaying his exceptional athleticism. The Fort Worth native totaled 72 tackles, five pass breakups, and two interceptions in his 28 games as a defensive back.

Graham was a three-star wide receiver prospect out of high school who picked the Sooners over Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, and other schools. Graham wasn’t a 4 or 5 star prospect, but his size, speed, and leaping ability made him a sought-after prospect.

Owing to Lincoln Riley’s and Alex Grinch’s defensive woes, the organization tried to develop Graham into a versatile defensive back by utilizing his quickness and raw potential. But Graham went back to attacking after Brent Venables and co. took charge.

Although details about the surgery Graham is undergoing are yet unknown, the senior wide receiver ought to be able to play in the NCAA for at least one more season.
