On Sunday afternoon, the Dallas Cowboys wrapped up their fourth season under head coach Mike McCarthy, and it did so in a most depressing way. The scoreboard showed 48-32 at the conclusion of the game, but anyone who saw would have known that it was never actually that close. The Green Bay Packers, a young and inexperienced team, dominated Dallas. At the end of it all, they appeared to be the club with players in their rookie and sophomore seasons and had home field advantage, recent postseason experience, and a head coach with a Super Bowl championship.
Although the players should and are being held accountable for the most recent Cowboys collapse, the head coach is usually the first person to be blamed when anything this bad occurs.
The dysfunction of the Dallas Cowboys right now is centered on Mike McCarthy’s employment situation.
Not only did the Cowboys lose. That takes place. It’s true that Dallas became the first club in history to fall short of a #7 seed in the playoffs (this was the third year in which it occurred). But once more, this is the NFL, and things fail.
However, this was never even near. The Cowboys somewhat turned the score around to 27-0 well before halftime, but in actuality, they were outmatched in every aspect of the game.
Mike McCarthy’s job status is the main cause of the Dallas Cowboys’ current disarray.
The Cowboys did not just lose. That happens. It’s true that Dallas, in its third consecutive postseason appearance, became the first team in history to finish outside of the #7 spot in the standings. However, as is often the case in the NFL, things go wrong.
But this was never even close to it. Before halftime, the Cowboys managed to bring the score to 27-0, but in reality, they were outmatched in every facet of the game.
It’s reasonable to say that the Cowboys will make a big, big choice in the next several hours, maybe a day and a half, or something like. only to confirm that they are aware of the organization’s direction. Undoubtedly, getting over Mike McCarthy is a factor. My sense is that the Dallas Cowboys are taking it into consideration, not that it’s a given. If you are going to make a selection, it is best to act quickly given the abundance of head coaches available and the seven other teams, to be precise, that are now searching for a new head coach.
It would also be necessary to take into account the fact that Bill Belichick, the greatest coach of all time, is still in the game and that I am aware of his strong relationship with the Joneses.
Rapoport is correct in highlighting that if you want to make a move that (in the words of Jeff Probst shortly before reading the votes at Tribal Council) now would be the time to do so. There are currently seven head coaching openings available (the New England Patriots have already filled theirs), which means that if you do not move swiftly, your top candidate may take one of the other seven places.
Though Belichick is the best coach of all time and deserves every bit of consideration, other contenders should also be considered. It seems that Jim Harbaugh would like to rejoin the NFL, and Mike Vrabel is free. Ben Johnson continues to dazzle with the Detroit Lions. There will be a time crunch.
After the game, we at BTB conducted a poll, and you might be surprised to hear that almost everyone wants Mike McCarthy fired. But does the Jones family agree?
