With the 2023–24 season about halfway over, Anthony Davis has cemented himself as the Los Angeles Lakers’ new top option.
Giving Davis as many touches as possible has been a priority for head coach Darvin Ham and his staff, and the standout big man has up to the occasion.
Some were furious with Davis after the Utah Jazz game since he is possibly enjoying the best season of his career.
Davis felt himself responsible for his performance against the Jazz even though it was just his second career triple-double, according to Spectrum SportsNet:
They attempted 38 free throws, and we fouled a lot,” Davis remarked. At the end of the day, though, our guys and everyone else performed their jobs, with the exception of myself. I failed to perform my duties. Everyone has to stand up while Bron is out, of course, and those men did—well, except for me. I’m on my own, then.
Davis also mentioned a few of the areas the squad has been working on lately, but he again accepted responsibility for the defeat:
Indeed. We discussed our ball security in a few of our chats. Although I committed six turnovers tonight, I believe our team did a decent job of at least attempting to score. They made a few threes, many of which were the result of our mistakes—live ball turnovers are difficult to stop. They hit a few timely threes. However, as I mentioned before, during the majority of the game, our guys in this locker room deserve a lot of credit for stepping up and performing their duties. It was my fault, as I have stated. Tonight, I didn’t perform my duties.
His shooting performance that night was quite unusual as he only made a pitiful 5-of-21 from the field. Even though Davis set a new record with a triple-double, his bad shooting performance will overshadow the achievement.
Although Davis has never shied away from taking responsibility for his actions, the Lakers need more action rather than just words as they are losing ground in the standings.
