Federico Valverde, a Real Madrid starlet who is apparently having second thoughts about remaining put at the Bernabeu despite intense summer interest, is still wanted by Chelsea and Liverpool.
Fichajes claims that Chelsea and Liverpool are still interested in signing Federico Valverde. The two Premier League teams were among those looking to sign the Real Madrid midfielder. However, a move did not occur this past summer.

The Uruguayan has accrued 18 goals and 15 assists in 208 games for the Merengues after moving to Los Blancos from Penarol in 2016 for just £4.3 million. In 56 appearances for Ancelotti’s team last year, Valverde scored 12 goals, assisting Los Blancos in capturing the Copa del Rey, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

Beingrecognized as one of the best lynchpins in the world, a transfer to a top-flight English club was predictably discussed for Valverde throughout the summer. The Uruguayan international was reportedly a target for Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United, with the latter also thought to be keeping an eye on events.

All three teams were concerned about being priced out of a move because Valverde has a contract at the Bernabeu till 2027.

Valverde, however, now “half regrets having made this decision,” and the “best thing he could have done is to have packed his bags” in favor of a Premier League move this past summer. For their 2-1 victory over Getafe on Saturday, Carlo Ancelotti benched the Uruguayan international. Jude Bellingham scored a late winner to continue their outstanding start to the season.

According to reports, Valverde has admitted that he won’t be Real Madrid’s “undisputed starter” this season. Despite playing a crucial role for Ancelotti, Fichajes claims that the Uruguayan midfielder is still seen as a high-value, marketable asset that might be written off in order to balance the books and pay for Kylian Mbappe’s arrival next summer.

The midfield engine rooms of the two Premier League heavyweights have both undergone significant summertime changes, with Liverpool’s midfield receiving the most attention. Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch have all been recruited to the Reds.

However, on deadline day, Chelsea also acquired Deivid Washington from Santos in addition to signing Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Andrey Santos. Therefore, given that both of them are well-stocked in the engine room, the stories of their persistent interest in Valverde should be treated with a grain of salt.
