As the NFL continues to crack down on players, Detroit Lions wide receiver Amontee St. Brown is fined a whopping $43,000.

An innocuous block by Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra ST. Brown in the first quarter of Sunday’s game did not draw a penalty, but it did earn him a $43,709 fine on the league’s “unnecessary roughness” label. The Lions had called a second-down rushing play for David MONTGOMERY with a little over a minute left in the first quarter and ST. Brown cut toward Bears safety JAREQUAN BRISHER from his outside position to block before Brisker got there.

According to NFL Network, the league has been trying to crack down on “cracking the head” to initiate contact, and this was no exception. Last week against Chicago, St. Brown was fined by the NFL for this block.

Whether or not St. Brown appeals the fine is unknown, but it was the second-highest fine on the NFL’s Week 11 list, behind only Panthers Safety Xavier Woods’ $16,292 fine and Steelers Linebacker Alex Highsmith’s $16,393 fine.

In his third year with the Lions (1-10), St. Brown has a league-leading 82 catches for 1,093 yards and 5 touchdowns in 10 games. St. Brown ranks fifth among NFL receivers in total yards (1,326) this season, behind only Tyreek Hill’s 1,324 yards (1,042), Cee Dee Lamb’s 1,066 yards (1,081), A. J. Brown’s 1,013 yards (1,097) and Allen’s 1,011 yards (1,071).

The Lions blew a 12-point fourth-quarter lead against the Bears before scoring two late touchdowns to win the NFC North showdown.

However, four days later, on Thanksgiving Day, against the Packers, the Lions fell behind by 14 points at the half and never recovered from that deficit in a 29-22 loss that dropped them to 8-3 on the season.

The Lions will face the Saints on Sunday, Dec. 3, as they look to maintain their lead over the Vikings atop their division.
