Under Unai Emery, Aston Villa have only spent £60m so far this season, yet Dean Smith has named four players as ‘go-tos’ for the club.

Birmingham Live has all the latest Aston Villa news as Dean Smith, the former manager of the club, makes his selection for the upcoming season. He’ll be looking to pick out the likes of Ezri Koscielny, Emi Martinez and John McGinn, as well as Ollie Watkins.

Dean Smith, the former manager of Aston Villa, has named four key players who have played a big part in the club’s success under new manager UnaiEmery. Aston Villa have been flying high this season, having finished seventh in the league last season and are now fifth after 12 games. They are also guaranteed to make it to the knockout stage of the Europa conference league.

On Monday Night Club on BBC 5 Live, Smith talked about Konsa’s first England call up and said he’s one of four big-name players in Emery’s squad, alongside Martinez, McGinn and Watkins. Of those three, Smith signed Martinez for £57m, Konsa for £40m and McGinn for around £3m.

Konsa is a great kid and a great player, and I’m keeping an eye on him in Unai’s team right now. He’s one of the top players on the team, and the other key players are Martinez, Konza, McGinn, and Watkins.

Ezri has been the star of the show for most of the season, and he’s been so consistent and calm that he deserves to be called up. He’s one of the few players I’ve ever signed twice, and we paid a whopping £2 million to get him away from Charlton. He’s really good at what he does, and he’s athletic, fast, and good at one-on-one situations.

He’s a leader who doesn’t talk much, but he’s a real force to be reckoned with. He’s not the most outgoing player, but he’s confident in himself and that shows – his teammates love him for it. He’s a great guy to have around the team.
