Aston Villa v Fulham: Leon Bailey warns team-mates after Unai Emery’s record-breaking success
Aston Villa can equal a record and move one game closer to another if they beat Fulham at the weekend. Victory over manager Marco Silva’s team would equal a record of 13 wins in a row, which was last achieved in 1983.

Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey warns his team-mates that Fulham are working hard to find their’magic Villa Park formula’.

Aston Villa will equal a record and move within a game of another team if they beat Fulham at the weekend.

Victory over Marco Silva’s team will equal a record of 13 wins in a row, which was last achieved in 1983.

However, they will have to go two goals better to equal the club’s record of 14 goals set in the 1930’31 and 1931’32 campaigns. Bailey, a former Jamaica international, added: “It’s getting harder and harder for us to win at home. Fulham have a good team, but so do we, and we have to stick to the game plan. We have been doing that, and it has worked for us, so we just need to stay calm and keep doing the same.”

However, everyone knows that we have never lost at home in the league. They will certainly try to break us down. We need to keep that in mind because it will become increasingly difficult.

Meanwhile, manager Unai Emery has been trying to contain expectations. Last week he was given a rude shock at the City Ground.

Villa had the opportunity to move into third but missed it with a poor performance in the east Midlands.

Despite their lack of success on their own ground, he maintains that his side are ‘contenders’ for a ‘potential’ top-seven spot – and nothing more.

He added that Man Utd and Chelsea are’more contenders than us’ to be ‘in the top four,’ ‘top five,’ and ‘top seven’.

“We’re not contenders,” he said. “We’re a team that’s ambitious and always looking for ways to improve. We’re fifth, which is great, but we don’t feel like we’re ‘in the top seven’. We can only dream. We’re going match-by-match looking for ways to get ahead of the game.
