Jameson Williams: Lions build an ‘unstoppable’ mindset

Jameson Williams is ready to help Lions keep winning in second half.

The Detroit Lions closed out the first half of the 2023 season on a positive note.
They easily defeated the Las Vegas Raiders, earning their sixth win in eight games.
As the Lions have won this season, they have built an unbreakable level of trust in their locker room.
With the help of head coach Dan Campbell, they have developed a mindset that they can match and take down anyone, including the NFL’s elite.

Second-year player Jameson Williams echoed the sentiment Thursday that the confidence instilled by Campbell and his coaching staff has spread throughout Detroit’s roster — and in a significant way.
“A gift is simply a matter of trust.
The more we win, the more confidence we have.
It’s like we’re building an unstoppable mindset,” Williams told reporters.
“Winning just helps us take it to the next level and keep going up a notch, and another, and another.
And it’s just about building loot and us playing together.
The offense goes out there and scores, the defense makes stops and the offense scores.
We all compete against each other, so it’s just a great team.
And all that pride and confidence is there.

Ten games into Williams’ NFL career, the Lions are still looking for consistent production from the Alabama product.
Williams spent most of his youth career either not playing (due to injury or off-field issues) or trying to catch the ball constantly.
In fact, he has caught just 29.
2% of the balls thrown since entering the professional ranks.
He has surpassed that career catch rate so far this season, but has caught just 6 of the 15 passes Lions quarterback Jared Goff has thrown to him (40.

0%) Despite these Despite this difficulty, the organization and fans remain hopeful that Williams will begin to survive a first-round pick in the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Williams said Thursday that after taking leave, he will focus on pursuing the Lions’ team-wide goals.
“I don’t really have any personal goals,” Williams said.
“I just want to keep winning.
We have a very good team, a good season is going on.
I just focus on winning.
Maybe we can go far in the playoffs and do something big.
Next up for the NFC North-leading Lions is a battle with the 4-4 Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Throughout the season, the Chargers have struggled to limit the passing of opposing teams.
In fact, Los Angeles has the most passes in the league through eight games (2,288).
Additionally, the team led by Brandon Staley allowed the sixth-most yards per pass attempt (6.
6).
However, the Chargers have more capable defenders in the secondary, including safety Derwin James and cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.
Williams was well aware of the challenge facing Samuel and James.
“They have very good guys.
They have Derwin (James), (Asante) Samuel, just guys making plays.
(It’s) something we have to deal with,” Williams said.
“We see how they act on film, we see what we can do, what we can handle and how we can Attack these guys.
“So it’s a great defense.

, but I feel like we can take these guys out one way or another.
We have a great offensive coordinator (Ben Johnson) and he knows exactly what he’s doing.

For his part, James is a tough defender and isn’t afraid to impose his will on his receiver, just like Williams.
In seven games this year, James, a three-time Pro Bowler, has collected 47 total tackles, along with two fumble recoveries and one interception.
“He went down and hit,” Williams said of his clash with James.
“So you definitely have to be ready for that.
That’s probably one of the main things I would say.
But he was a good baseball player in every way.
