Lewis Hamilton is entering the final stretch of his swansong F1 season with Mercedes, with six races remaining. Team boss Toto Wolff hopes to conclude their partnership on a high note, bidding farewell to the seven-time champion in the “best way possible.”
Earlier this season, Hamilton announced his bombshell move to Ferrari for 2025. Since making this announcement, he has won two races and secured four podiums, with six rounds remaining in his farewell season with the Silver Arrows. Hamilton will have six more race weekends to add to his record 84 wins with the team.
Previewing the final stretch of the 2024 F1 season, Wolff elaborated on the team’s desire to create memorable highlights and bid farewell to Hamilton in the best way possible.
He also emphasized the goal of finishing the season on a high note to build momentum for the 2025 season.
“This weekend marks the start of an intense run to the end of the year. We have six races over the next eight weeks, ending with the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
With six races to go there is plenty to fight for and the team will be doing everything it can to prepare for the final stint of the year,” Wolff was quoted as saying by Mercedes AMG F1 team.
“There is still plenty to fight for, and the opportunity to create a few highlights along the way. We want to end this year as strongly as possible, build momentum for 2025, and of course bid farewell to Lewis in the best way possible,” he added.
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes were in hot form before the summer break, but have lost the momentum since returning from it. The team has also dropped out of the title fight in the Constructors’ standings, currently sitting fourth with 329 points, 187 points behind leader McLaren.
Wolff added that the upgrade package set to be introduced at COTA should help the team close the gap to the front runners. The United States Grand Prix is scheduled for October 18-20 and marks the opening round of a triple header.
Ferrari boss highlights key differentiating factors between Lewis Hamilton and the rest
While Mercedes bids farewell to Lewis Hamilton, the Ferrari camp is eagerly anticipating the seven-time champion’s arrival at Maranello.
Team boss Fred Vasseur described Hamilton as a “machine” and highlighted the significant impact his presence would have on the team.
In a recent interview with The Times, Vasseur said Hamilton’s unique approach will benefit the team. He added that “life won’t change” internally at Ferrari, but Hamilton’s experience will help enhance the team’s performance.
“Lewis is a machine. The main difference between Lewis and the majority of the grid — and I don’t want to make a personal comparison — is that he is organised like a company.
In his mind, in his approach, he knows what he wants to do, when he wants to do it. He’s able to separate every single pillar of the activity and for us, for Ferrari, it will be helpful,” he said.
Lewis Hamilton will continue to strive for the elusive eighth world title while working to bring Ferrari back to the top of the standings.
