“No ligament damage” to Anthony Davis’ thumb – Lakers Outsiders

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, initial exams on Anthony Davis’ sprained thumb have revealed no ligament damage and the team expects it to be diagnosed as a grade one sprain. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar will receive an MRI on Sunday for a more official diagnosis.
Davis injured his right thumb in the second of two Lakers’ exhibition games in China. The big man has been plagued with injuries in the early parts of his career but has been largely healthy over the last three years.
There’s no word yet on how long Davis’ recovery period will be or if he will miss any games. Initial reports indicated that the Lakers were afraid of a more severe injury that could have sidelined the big man for over a month but Charania’s report shows that the injury is much tamer than first believed.
Last year, Davis missed nine games over the course of about two weeks with a sprained index finger injury.
The Lakers are still without forward Kyle Kuzma due to a foot injury. The third-year pro is also slated to receive an MRI after the team returns from China.
The Lakers will be hoping that one or both of their frontcourt stars will return to the squad before the start of the regular season on the 22nd.
