Jorge Martin spoke plainly about his future with his current employer Pramac Racing on Thursday ahead of the Red Bull Grand of the Americas. The Spaniard admitted that he is closer to Ducati than to Pramac, following rumors that the team may use Yamaha machinery in 2025. Jorge Martin has never made a secret of the fact that he himself is ready for a switch to a factory team.
The Spaniard is naturally aiming for a place next to Francesco Bagnaia in the Ducati factory team for 2025, but knows better than anyone that there are more suitors on the coast for that place. Martin has recently increased the pressure by regularly saying that if this deal does not go through, he would also listen to other manufacturers. Now Martin has the wind in his sails at the moment, he is the leader in the standings of the championship with 60 World Championship points scored.
The problem is, Ducati has indicated that it is in no hurry to sign the second riders next to Bagnaia, who has now been signed for the next two years within the Ducati Lenovo Team. With this knowledge and the rumors that Pramac Racing could make the switch from Ducati to Yamaha after this season, another option could suddenly arise for Martin.
Jorge Martin: “Well, at the moment I am more committed to Ducati than to Pramac Racing. It has been like that my whole MotoGP career. Everyone knows where my priority is. Let’s wait and see, because it’s still early, but I hope to be able to move to a factory team. Even if Pramac Racing changes brand, I don’t think I will stay here.”
But first, there is another important race weekend on the program in Austin this coming weekend, a race weekend in which Martin hopes to successfully defend his leading position in the championship. Martin, unlike last year, starts the weekend in Austin fully fit and is therefore confident that COTA will be more kind to him this year than in the past.
Jorge Martin: “I am very happy with how the start of the season has gone so far. We are doing great. I think our goal is to be better than the previous years. Not only here, but last season I had quite a hard time at this circuit. The main goal is to improve every year. We will see. It will be a big challenge because there are a lot of strong rivals for this weekend. I am confident and we are doing well. I feel in good physical condition and that is really important here. Last season I had a fever and I had a hard time because of the antibiotics. But I hope to be among the best this weekend.”
With 60 World Championship points scored, Martin defended an 18-point lead over number two Brad Binder this weekend in Austin and 21 points over Enea Bastianini, who currently occupies third place in the standings.
