The Green Bay Packers were out two receivers versus the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, one due to injury — Christian Watson — and another due to a suspension — Romeo Doubs. According to reports, Doubs skipped the Packers’ Thursday practice this week when he was unhappy with his role on the team. A “team representative” was the one who found Doubs at his residence when he no-called, no-showed.

On Friday, Doubs also missed practice, though it’s uncertain whether that was a decision that he or the team made. Following practice on Thursday, head coach Matt LaFleur stated that he was “hopeful” that Doubs would be suited up on Friday, but he later said that the team was going to take Doubs’ situation “day by day” after Friday’s practice.

Officially, general manager Brian Gutekunst suspended Doubs for conduct detrimental to the team on Saturday, costing Doubs his game check for the week and plenty of good PR. After the Packers’ win in Los Angeles, LaFleur finally got to speak on the suspension.

LaFleur said that he anticipates Doubs “coming back” to the team and that he’s “hopeful that he’ll come back.” He also mentioned that he’s “looking forward to our conversation tomorrow,” which implies that Doubs didn’t make the flight to Los Angeles — the receiver’s hometown — for the game. The Packers flew out on Saturday, after Doubs’ back-to-back missed days of practice.

The head coach noted that his team did a solid job of blocking out the distractions this week, at least by his measure. With Watson and Doubs out of the lineup, Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed and Malik Heath all played three-quarters of Green Bay’s offensive snaps on Sunday. While Reed had another great performance, Wicks was only able to turn seven targets into two receptions for 20 yards, due to several drops.
