Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self agreed to a big extension earlier this week.
Self agreed to a lifetime extension with the school that will pay him $53 million over the next five years. He’ll be the highest-paid coach in college basketball.
He’s been the head coach of the program for two decades so it’s natural to wonder if this will be his last deal with the school. Based on what he said this week, he may only be coaching for a few more years.
“I’m not only on the back nine, I’m on the back three or four,” Self said, via On3.
Whenever Self calls it a career, he’ll go down as one of the best college basketball coaches of all time. During his tenure at Kansas, he’s won 581 games and has led the program to two National Championships.
He’s also led the program to four Final Four appearances and 17 Big 12 regular season titles.
His Jayhawks are off to a great start this season after they beat NC Central 99-56 on Monday night.
