Zack Moss fantasy outlook: Should you draft Bengals RB in 2024?

Zack Moss was a fantasy darling last year. Drafted mostly as a handcuff for Jonathan Taylor, Moss ended up playing quite a bit due to injury. He forced the Indianapolis Colts to almost make it a committee backfield when Taylor came back, and Moss helped a lot of fantasy managers win games. Now that he’s on a new team and the presumptive lead back, what’s his outlook?

Zack Moss Fantasy Outlook 2024

Zack Moss was a backup in 2023 and is the starter in 2024. That automatically boosts his fantasy stock and improves his outlook. Even if the RB2 is in a committee of sorts, it usually doesn’t yield as much usage as an RB1 does.

That usage is going to be key. Whether or not he has as good of a season this year as he did last year is hard to say, but he will have more opportunities to reach that level. Even if his efficiency drops off, he will have the opportunity to make up for it.

It doesn’t matter for most fantasy leagues whether it takes someone 10 carries or 30 carries to reach 100 yards. Efficiency matters not to the overall point total in fantasy.

Despite competing with a star running back and entering the year as the backup, Moss finished as the overall 95th player in fantasy last year. In just 14 games (eight of which he started), he recorded 794 yards (4.34 per clip) and five touchdowns. He added 192 yards and two scores through the air.

Is Zack Moss a good fantasy pick this year?

Zack Moss could be a good fantasy pick this year. There is value in all draft positions, so that’s what truly determines it. However, Moss is poised to be a good player for the Cincinnati Bengals this year.

Moss may end up getting drafted higher because of his incredible run last year. Players who do surprisingly well and earn a better situation often get bumped up on draft boards. Whether or not it pans out takes the full season to see.

However, Moss was good and efficient in a slightly diminished role last year. At over four yards per carry, the Bengals star could have a really outstanding stat line in 2024.

He does enter a more pass-happy offense than the one he had with the Indianapolis Colts, but that may lead to fewer stacked boxes and more passes out of the backfield. It could help Moss play well, and there are a lot of things that point to his being a quality selection this year.

He’s not likely to be a league-winner or a player who contends to be the top RB in fantasy. There are too many elite backs to consider that, but Moss will be a dependable selection who you can count on as one of your running backs.

Where should you draft Bengals RB this season?

As mentioned, the draft position is the determining factor in how valuable a player is. Even if they end up as the eighth-best running back, selecting them as the second running back off the board means you lost a lot of value.

Right now, Zack Moss’ ADP (average draft position) is the 79th overall player. While more drafts conclude as the regular season approaches, that may change. As it stands, it puts him ironically in the same spot as the man he replaced: Joe Mixon.

However, if it comes down to those two players, our fantasy analyzer believes Mixon will be the more rewarding pick. It predicts a fairly substantial gap in their season point totals this year. Nevertheless, this is a good range for Moss to be picked in.
