Mercedes struggled to score points at the start of the season. As the season progressed, the team introduced new upgrades that delivered incredible results in the recent races in Austria and Silverstone. Lewis Hamilton won last weekend’s British GP but is set to leave the team at the end of the 2024 season. These victories wouldn’t influence the decision of Lewis Hamilton’s replacement.
Toto Wolff talking to the media, said the wins don’t influence the thinking of who will replace Lewis Hamilton. He highlighted that the performance of their car is the most important factor for the team. Wolff believed that when they will have a fast car, they can focus on putting the right driver in it. This can create exciting competition and attract many talented drivers. Because having a strong car is the key to making the team successful and interesting in the racing. When the car is competitive it attracts many drivers and engineers to the team.
It doesn’t influence our thinking, I’ve always said we need a car that goes quick and when we have a car that goes quick, we put the driver in and we get interested. Interesting for many drivers.
Toto Wolff said, as reported by PlanetF1.com
Wolff mentioned that for now it is important for the team to stay calm and focused as the season is still pending. He stated Instead of making rash decisions, they concentrate on improving the car and see how things develop. Winning races is great, but it doesn’t mean everything will suddenly change or turn the plans upside down. Wolff added they need to keep their long-term goals in mind while evaluating their options as the season progresses. 17-year-old Kimi Antonelli is believed to be in prime position to replace Hamilton.

But, in a way, I think we need to stay calm and continue the season, continue to focus on the car and then look at whether the options are still the same and… but it’s not like this [winning races is] changing everything and [turning] upside down.
